11. What is a Read Only user?

A Read Only user is a facility in your CcDrive that allows you to give someone else access to your files without letting them change or delete them. It is an extra way to get access to your account on CcDrive, but one which keeps your files secure. Give out your Read Only user id to people you want to have access to your files, but dont trust them enough to allow them full access. For instance, you may have some important sales spreadsheets that you wish to share with a number of clients. If you give them your normal user id and password, they can not only see your files but they can modify or delete them as well! If instead you give them the Read Only user id and password, then your files can be downloaded, but not altered or deleted. Your clients get access to the data, and you keep your files secure.

Any website that needs to allow visitors access to changing information can use this facility. For instance :

  • A community site may wish visitors to have access to all of their old newsletters.
  • A company may wish to allow visitors to view all of their old accounting reports.
  • A company may wish to allow visitors to have access to a variety of forms for printing.
  • A restaurant may wish to allow visitors access to the very latest menu.

The real beauty of this system is that whenever you wish to change the files your visitors can see and download, there is no web programming to do. Simply log on to your CcDrive account with your normal user id and you can add, delete or modify any of your files. With CcDrive, you are in control of your files.

Remember : When you give your visitors access to your CcDrive account your files are safe. They cannot be deleted or changed.
